There seems to be.. erm.. some 'small' disagreements about the polls. Some people want there to be an option that says "the masks should remain unknown". Many people have weighed in their opinions on the topic, but the one person's opinion who matters the most wasn't said. So what do YOU think? Should this option be on the polls or not?

I see  no reason not to include that. If the majority of people who vote would rather not know, it is important to be able to see that. If,  on the other hand, that option loses in the poll, then you know that a majority of people do want this information and the people who do not are in the minority.

I, for one, might just honestly vote "unknown". The old Bionicle loses some of it's mystique for me when every little tiny detail is revealed after the fact. I mean, I would sort of like to know TSO's real name, but if Greg did reveal it, it would definitely ruin the sense of mystery (so I'm glad he wants to keep it secretJoking). I think that quite a few other fans would probably feel the same way.

Well, that's because they're not heroes.

They are brutal

destructive

insane

broken

robots.

They have no morals.

They are all gods in their world.

They do not die, and thus consider themselves higher than all of the other beings.

And for them, if they are low, they are evil.

And if they are evil, they must be destroyed.

Because they believe themselves to be heroes.

None of this is actually canon. I just made it up.But perhaps it has some truth in it. Or not.

What species are you referring to? The Rahkshi? The Rahkshi are basically evil roaches, nobody is going to grieve over their ending.

I think he's talking about Hero Factory, Mr. Farshtey.

It upsets me to say this, but a lot of people really hated the Invasion From Below line. There seems to be a bunch of people who are hating on the Heroes because they defeated the beasts.

I personally don't feel that way... it seems unappreciative to the HF team - plus they aren't accounting for the fact that Christian Faber and the Advance team had to change the ending at the last minute.

Dear Greg,

Was it ever revealed why Zaktan turned into protodites when the Shadowed One's eyebeams struck him? If not, I have a theory as to why if you want to hear it.

Well when he and the other Piraka were raiding Makuta's lair, Zaktan immediately recognized the energized protodermis pool. What if he had an encounter with energized protodermis before, maybe while he was a slave in the protodermis mines. Maybe he had been exposed, but the changes were so subtle no one noticed, but it had basically turned him into a Skadi-Protodite hybrid. Then when the Shadowed One's disintergrater beam hit him, he split apart and became mllions of protodites, kind of like how protodites self-dupicate when struck.

Tell me what you think. Is this a viable explaination?

1. would the "destined" matoran (nuhrii, tehutti, ehrye, orkaham, vhisola, and ahkmou) have called themselves by the same name (toa metru) if they had become toa?

2. we know what their (pre-stated matoran) masks would have been, but would their weapons have been the same as the toa metru of their element?

3. if a matoran nui of destined matoran was given 6 toa stones, would they become a toa nui (despite the normal impossibility of this) or would the nui have shattered and resulted in 6 toa?

4. in Time Trap, you said that vakama built Nuju's teloscopic sight onto his mask, does this mean that most Matatu would be symmetrical and not hace the teloscope? (pg. 35 if you're curious)

5. are all matoran the same build as the metru nui matoran sets? (since the Tohunga were shrunken, the Rebuilt Mata Nui Matoran were rebuilt shrunken, the Karda Nui Av-matoran were absorbing light, and the Voya Nui were "fixed" shrunken)

6. verifying- is Barraki the name of the six leaders only, and the League of Six Kingdoms is the organization?

7. is each Barraki a different species?

8. how close are the Barraki sets to their original form?

9. are there any of them that are species we are familiar with?

10. could a toa of iron modify his armor, non-organic body peices, and weapons, maybe even change between weapons at any given time? (providing he had enough elemental power)

So Greg, here's another question.

Does the kakama increase the speed of the users thought and perception as well as motion?

(((fill in the blank))) species threatens Earth and gets destroyed by heroes is pretty much a staple of science fiction. It may not be politically correct now, but it's a trope by this point, so it doesn't surprise me that is how the HF story ended up. Most adventure stories do not end with everyone sitting down and talking things out.

So, I watched TTV 122, so, what do you think about the polls recently, do they bother you?

I've pretty much said what I had to say on the canonization debate, so no, the polls don't bother me. I do agree that "I don't want to know" should be an option, because there could be things the community just does not care about. But at the end of the day, BIONICLE belongs to LEGO Company, so that's who decides when we stop canonizing stuff for Gen1. It could be tomorrow, for all I know, or next year, or never. Until I am told to stop, I will continue to consider requests that are made to me.

There are a bunch of fallacies running around now that I am pestering you and bugging you to canonize a bunch of stuff. This is false because for starters, you were the one that suggested that we should decide the final element of the Toa Mangai. People seem to don't know all the facts about this and seem to be spreading around incorrect information. Could you please give a statement on this?

I have no interest in getting into the middle of what amounts in part to a personality clash on another website. That is not what I am on here to do.

Hi Greg,

I know you are a very original writer, and LEGO highly encorporates originality into its products and other endevors, but for you, were there any source from which you drew inspiration from when writing for TLG (i.e. a comic book, All Quiet on the Western Front, a movie, etc.)?

Nothng specific, no. I have occasionally done an homage in my work -- for example, Robot Rampage had elements of zombie movies and The Magnificent Seven in it -- but in general, there are only so many different stories in the world. Originality largely consists of mixing and matching elements of those in a way that hopefully hasn't been done (too much) before.

Matoran Kanohi Questions

1. Did Ehrye, Vhisola, and Orkahm keep their masks from Metru Nui on Mata Nui? No storyline source has ever suggested that they didn't, but BS01 demands explicit clarification in order to add it to the pages.

2. On a tangentially related note, how frequently did Matoran on Mata Nui break their masks and replace them?

3. If we know which mask a Matoran wore on Metru Nui, is it safe to say that they wore the same mask on Mata Nui?

Shadow Takanuva Questions

When a previous message asked if the Shadow Takanuva wore the Kanohi Avohkii, you answered that they "would not wear masks that promote peace and light". However, in the same post, you said that their masks looked like the 2008 Avohkii (the one that was partially drained of light). This is a little confusing to me, so if you don't mind my asking, can you clarify what the situation is with the Shadow Takanuva's masks?

1. Do the Shadow Takanuva wear Kanohi Avohkii?

2. If these Kanohi Avohkii have been light-drained, does that mean their powers have changed?

3. What are the powers of the Shadow Takanuva's masks?

Thank you for your time.

1) Yes

2) No idea.

3) Yes

1) Yes, they did wear Avohkii but they were Avohkii that had no light. Which begs the question, how does an object react to being drained of light? Would its powers change, or would it simply (in this case) cease to have any power at all? I am open to a discussion on this, rather than just making a pronouncement.
