Dear Greg,

in my name, and in the name of many others, probably, I really want to thank you for all the work and writing you did on the old BIONICLE. You shaped the lore in so many ways, breathed life into this unique, amazing universe. You introduced us to places and characters we would never have seen and met, had it not been for you.

It was you who took the Makuta of Metru Nui, not much more than a sadistic begrudger at one point, and turned him into Teridax, the awe-inspiring evil mastermind.

It was you who chose a Toa that had never really wanted to be a hero, and gave him the greatest of all destinies.

You gave us Helryx. Karzahni. Annona. Kojol. Chiara, Zaria and Orde. Tuyet. The Dark Hunters. Miserix and Nektann. You gave us exciting stories of adventure and conflict and triumph and loss.

You answered so many of our questions, you still do, despite the fact that our curiosity - just like the Matoran's - probably proves to be quite tiring, every now and then.

You gave us all these wonderful stories, Greg, and they mean so much to me and to this fandom.

And while part of me is, certainly, looking forward to hearing new tales, of a new place, I'll never leave that world you - and others - shaped for us. A lot of people made the old BIONICLE what it was - Christian Faber, Bob Thompson, many others. But in the end, it comes down to you. We know you loved this universe, as we do. And we won't forget you.

BIONICLE will never be the same without its beloved storyteller.

Perhaps, many years from now, you will gain time, permission and opportunity to return to this world. And in case you feel like writing about it again, all those fans that remain will be embracing your words. Even if they can't be made canonical anymore - that won't matter.

Thank you, for everything.

Thank you. This means more to me than you can know. I printed it out and put it up on my office wall.

Hey Greg I have some questions on antidermis.

1. If a makuta's antidermis is damaged it will regenerate itself, correct?

1.1 assuming the above is true, would a makuta's antidermis placed in an enclosure larger than the mass of the antidermis generate more of itself to fill the enclosure?

1.2 assuming both of the above were true, if someone enclosed a makuta's antidermis in a box, and the walls of that box expanded until the antidermis had twice as much mass as it did before being enclosed, and a divider was placed in the middle of the box, would that result in the makuta being essentially cloned?

1) I believe so, yes

1.1) No, there would be no reason to do so

1.2) No

So, you've said before that you have no grand plan for the ending of the (original) storyline, but can you at least answer this:

Would it have ended in tragedy, or comedy?

Probably neither. BIONICLE was never a comedy, and I don't think LEGO would have let us end it on a downbeat note. I assume it would have ended somewhat like it did -- with a new beginning for the characters you like, so that the potential existed for the fans to keep creating new adventures after we stopped.

Thank you for replying, Mr. Farshtey!  I've thought up some new questions:

  1. Were all Toa Hagah teams comprised of six members, or did the numbers vary by Makuta?
  2. Do the inorganic forms of the Toa Inika’s Kanohi resemble their organic forms, at least to some extent (I ask because the Kanohi of Jovan and Tobduk are depicted as identical in their set forms)?
  3. Since Shadow Kraata are able to speak Matoran, can they also speak when operating a Rahkshi, or does the suit impair their speech?
  4. The set form of Miserix’s dragon form is depicted with a bladed staff-like weapon. Was this weapon his tool in his default Makuta form, just enlarged, or did he wield a different weapon?
  5. Was Icarax originally intended to be a set incarnation of Teridax (because of the Kraahkan), or was he always supposed to be a separate Makuta?
  6. Were the shapes of the Mistika Makuta’s masks significantly altered by the waters of the Karda Nui swamp, or did they still resemble their original forms to some extent?

Thank you very much!  I hope you have a great day!

These got lost a while ago.  I also just thought of a couple more:

  1. Do all of Sidorak's species (the Steltian aristocrats) wear red armor, or can they be other colors as well?
  2. Similarly, do allof Krekka's species look like Krekka, with blue-white coloration, or can they vary as well?

Thanks so much for still being here to answer our questions!

I think they probably vary.

Hi Greg

1 - If the Inika masks were not mutated, would their shape differ or it would remain the same ?

2 - Was Vakama's visions something given to his programming during his creation ?

3 - There's already a mask of Gravity, Shadows and Light. It is safe to assume that a Mask of the others elements exist as well ?

3.5 - How would a mask of water work ?

4 - How Nocturn was killed ?

5 - Is Hydraxon "Mask" his face or a Helmet ?

Thanks

Buried

1) I think their shapes would have been somewhat different

2) Don't know. The source of Vakama's visions was never explained to the rest of the story team by Bob Thompson

3) Certainly the potential exists for such masks

3.5) Um, you would control water with it

4) He was killed during an escape attempt. The details on exactly how were never outlined.

5) I don't think that is his face, no

Hello Mr. Farshtey, there has been a few things about Brutaka I can't find information on so I thought to ask you.

1. When the Antidermis attacked Brutaka's Olmak and "destroyed" it, did that mean that it shattered his mask beyond the point of wearing it, or was it just damaged enough that he couldn't use it anymore?

1A. If the mask is broken beyond wearing it, did Brutaka live the rest of his life without a mask?

2. After Mata Nui defeated Makuta and turned everything back to normal with the rest of his power, did that reverse the effects that the Antidermis took on Brutaka that made him understand the history of the Makuta and the Shattering?

1) No, they don't need a full year for a book. I would be writing books for January the summer before, usually, so they probably won't need to get a writer going before December.

2) Remind me what your question was? Smile

3) I would say none. I really can't think of a BIONICLE character who was very much like me.

Oh OK then that makes more sense. My other question was:

What do you think was the most interesting story aspect of BIONICLE (the original, not the new)?

Thanks for answering my questions, I really appreciate it Smile

The scope of it, I think. It was such a broad  universe that you could tell stories for ages and you could do things in different genres if you want to.

I have a few questions regarding Bionicle

1. Does the Mask of Creation that Ekimu wears look exactly like the one Artakha wears?

2. If a Matoran on Voya Nui transformed into a Toa while they still believed the Piraka were Toa, would he end up looking like a Skakdi or a strange Toa/Skakdi hybrid -ish thing?

3. Is there a Mask of Control or a counterpart of it in the Gen1 universe?

3b. If so, would it look exactly the same as the one in the Gen2 universe?

4. Why didnt Teridax kill the Turaga during his takeover?

5. Does Voporak still possess the Mask of Time

1) How the one Artakha wore looked was never described in story, so no way to answer this.

2) Probably the former

3) A Mask of Control of what?

3b)) I really can't speak to how things would look in Gen2, since I am not involved with it

4) In what way were the Turaga a threat to him worth killing?

5) Yes

There was a cancelled PC game that was meant to be canon called BIONICLE: The Legend of Mata Nui. In that game, there was a rahi called the Fikou-Nui. If you look it up, you can see that it is a larger version of the Fikou... very larger.

So I was wondering. Where did this rahi come from? It is on the island of Mata Nui in the game. I believe it is in Onu-Wahi. Was it created as a lone rahi, the only one of it's kind. Is it a sub-species of the Fikou, or just a "close relative"?  Was it an escapee from the archives that made its way to Mata Nui? So many questions, probably little answers...

Hmmm. The only BIONICLE PC game I can recall being cancelled was from 2001. Anyway, unfortunately, you have sort of answered your own question -- cancelled PC game that was going to be canon equals stuff that did not become canon. So no info exists on this. The person who was working on the game on the LEGO end hasn't even worked here since 2005.

Can you make the Fikou-Nui a canon rahi? It doesn't really affect any pre-established canon. We have a couple pictures of it. And it is awesome... And I just really like Fikou!

Sure, fine by me.

Do you think the Matoran introduced kolhii to the Agori on Spherus Magna?
