Since only one Avohkii and the Kraahkan were the only copies of those masks in existance, would that mean that they were formed out of Great Disks like the Vahi, or are they simply just the only ones?

No,  not if they died outside the MU. The RS teleports from the MU and (when it's woring) to the MU, it is not programmed to teleport from anywhere else.

I generally am not one for posting much, I prefer lurking and reading what others say. I had somewhat noted that you were getting a lot of backlash from fans and to be honest I didn't really think about how that must feel. However, I just listened to episode 119 of the TTV Podcast and I thought I should comment. I would like to thank you for all the arduous work you put into what I believe to be one of the coolest universes out there to play around in. I spent the entire run of Bionicle keeping up on the story and getting the sets when I could. I will not go into detail, but my childhood was not the best (nor could I rightly say it was the worst) and when I needed to escape into my own little world it was more often than not Bionicle that I retreated into. I love to Moc and I always make bios and backstories for the characters I build, and because I so enjoyed the world you wrote about it was always in that world I would make them. I come up with ways that my characters could fit into that world without their story interferring with the one you wrote. And there were times those characters and the ones you made seemed to be my best friends. While I respect and understand those who say the plot got conveluted, I loved it anyway and I enjoy the little tidbits you can canonize now. I just want you to know that there are those out there who enjoy the work you did and whose lives it has affected in a positive way. If you have an hour or so sometime, I would suggest listening to the TTV episode mentioned previously, I think you might find it encouraging and more than a bit amusing. I did. I also think it'd be really cool if you were to do another interview with 'em. Anyway, this concludes my far longer than usual post. Thank you.

Thank you, that is extraordinarily kind of you.

I thought we would talk a little bit today about story complexity, because it is something that comes up both inside and outside LEGO Company when it comes to BIONICLE.

I have said in the past, somewhat glibly, that when you write 800,000+ words about something, it gets complex. But that is not strictly true -- I can point to other fictional  universes that have been around forever that are not complex. That is because the characters do  not grow or change and the universes are static. But BIONICLE was never intended to be a static universe. So I thought I would expound:

1) BIONICLE was a mystical story that I turned into a sci-fi story.

False. BIONICLE was always a sci-fi story - it was always about beings who were supposed to be (or were) living inside a giant robot. That was from day one. You just didn't know it at the start. And it was governed by a story team, I did not have the power to change its genre.

2) You had to follow everything to follow the story.

False. You had to read the comics (which were free) and see the movies. The books and serials were, for the most part, side stories. You needed to read them to understand questions being asked on fan sites, but not to actually follow the main plot.

3) The huge cast made it hard to follow.

True. Every set for the year, and most of the combiners, had to be shoehorned into story. In addition, contests that allowed fans to create characters that would be canon also added to the cast list. But I still think those were worth doing.

4) The story became a barrier to new fans.

I would say probably true. If I try to start watching most drama shows on TV in Season 3 or 4 without watching  previous seasons, I will be lost. That is why people binge watch. Walk into any ongoing story in the middle and you are going to be confused. The solution to that is do a story where no one grows or changes and nothing of significance happens so no one misses anything.

More later ...

1. Why was Takanuva's 2008 set titan size? (May it be becuse of the same reason as the Av-Matoran being bigger in Karda Nui?) And why was his Star set silver and white instead of gold and white?

2. Was the Mistika Makuta really mutated or was it just form shifted?

3. Are there any number about around how many matorans that have died?

4. Why did Artahka create the Kraahkan?

5. Does Artahka and Karzahni really see eachother as brothers?

Question about 4. I read on Bs01 that it was created be inslaved mask makers. Where did you read the it was made by Artahka?

Kanohi questions:

we know that kanohi grant their wearer some power, and there are many different powers that can be gained by using one. some of these kanohi do this by affecting the wearer: the kaukau, for instance, when activated, makes its wearer a water-breather. others, such as the olmak, upon activation, affect the environment (creating a portal).

so my question is this: do masks that allow for psionic powers, such as telekenesis or mind control, affect the wearer, or the target? when activated, do they bestow psionic powers on the user, who is then free to use them as necessary until the mask is deactivated, or do they assert the power on the target, and the user just controls how it works? (like the mask of mind control would control the target and the wearer would guide their actions?)

either mechanism of action makes sense, but i'm remembering a few times where the books would say something like "he focused the mask's energies on [target]" or something like that, so that would point to the masks affecting the target?

thank you!

Dear mr Farshtey,

I've recently watched the recent TTV podcast and I was shocked to discover the backlash you've recieved. You are by far my favourite author and made an uninteresting story (Hero Factory) absolutely brilliant (with your secret mission series). You're Bionicle books and serials are the best. I don't agree with what all the 'hater' are saying about you making things canon. As soon as the new fans come in everything about gen 1 will be lost to sheer numbers of posts, reviews, cartoons, stories etc. You making things canon, even the small things such as team names, is the last connection to the old story before its all lost. The new story will be great, but even the smallest amount of new info to an old story's nice. The amount of people who apreciate what you do is 100x greater than those who don't. I hope you aren't overly upset with what the haters are saying, as everything they say is ridiculous. Again, you are a brilliant author and I hope you aren't upset,

Thanks, BeorntheBear.

Hey Greg,

In Legends of Metru Nui, "Turaga Dume" was talking to a shadowy figure with red eyes. Since Teridax was disguised as Dume. Who was that shadow figure?

He was looking in a mirror and talking to himself.

There are people who share your point of view. And there are people who just want the story frozen and see no purpose in adding anything more to it. I respect their view, but it is not their call to make. It is LEGO Company's call to make. What I do here is very little compared to what I used to be able to do for fans, so until someone in authority tells me to stop, I intend to keep doing it WITHIN REASON. It is not open season on canonization, but as I have said elsewhere, the need to preserve the story in amber because it might get officially revisited no longer exists.

The former. Even if you are granted powers, you are granted them through the energy of the mask, and it is that energy you still need to work through.

1) Because that is how the set designers made them.

2) They shapeshifted and then were locked in those forms -- that was the mutation.

3) No

4) Because that was part of his job. Makuta Teridax had a role to play in the orderly running of the universe and that was to be his mask.

5) Yes, in the same way that Toa see each other as brothers and sisters.

To my knowledge, they were not made from Great Disks. If they had been, the Great Disks would not have existed to be found in 2004.
